At Twelve9teen Sports Physiotherapy for Adolescents we are all about adolescents.  We believe young athletes are the future of sport in Australia. Too often young athletes have the most inexperienced and least qualified health professionals around them – not at Twelve9teen. With Twelve9teen you get one of the most experienced and qualified specialist sports and exercise physiotherapists working with you and your family. Whilst sport is huge for teenagers, it’s more than sport, it’s about teenagers as a whole, it’s about all the changes and transitions that are occurring physically, biologically, neurologically, psychologically and socially.  At twelve9teen we strongly believe that to get the best outcomes for you we need to look at you as a whole.

We are passionate about women in sport, about giving girls the same opportunities as boys.  Gender differences in injury profiles first emerge in your teenage years, and we believe teenage girls should have rehabilitation plans that are designed for girls, not boys, taking into consideration the unique changes that are occurring in your bodies at this time.  Dr Loretta even focussed her doctoral research on knee injuries in adolescent girls.  It is this passion for adolescents and for women in sport that was the driver behind our longstanding relationship with DPNA and in particular, the Nissan Stage Age teams.

As a mum, Dr Loretta understands wanting the very best for your child, wanting to get the balance right, wanting to give them every opportunity you can, but not pushing them to burn out. She understands your concerns about your child’s long-term health, your concerns about the impacts of sport and injury on growth and development and your natural intuition when you feel something isn’t quite right. She understands the total devastation for the whole family when an injury crushes your child’s dreams, but equally she understands the sheer joy for the whole family when your child does reach their dreams. She understands the juggle of competitive school and club sport with academic and social loads and pressures. She understands the drive to win and to leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of excellence. She understands that adolescence is a transition from being a completely dependent child to a completely independent adult and that transitions are never smooth, they are difficult, they are frustrating and they will make you tear your hair out. She understands that letting go is the hardest thing to do as a parent, but letting go and loving are our two most important roles. She understands how beautiful and amazing the adolescent brain is and how to channel this potential to assist with recovery and achieving goals. She has the resolve to be that calm influence for your teen and your family to guide you through the rocky journey to elite sport.
